Julie, a kind yet strong-hearted farm woman, is forced apart from her loving husband and stripped of her child by the schemes of her spiteful, snobbish mother-in-law, Madeleine. She later adopts an abandoned infant, Susanna. Seventeen years later, Julie learns that her biological son, Justin, is tormenting her adoptive daughter. Amid this turmoil, she is reunited with her husband. Yet with so much time having passed, will they even recognize each other?
